A short reflection and prayer for this month
July
"The steps of a good man are ordered by the LORD: And he delighteth in his way.
Though he fall, he shall not be utterly cast down: for the LORD upholdeth him with his hand."
Psalm 37: 23-24
As summer reaches its height and the days stretch long before us, it is easy to contemplate what is to come and wish that we could see the whole road ahead. We like certainty. We like plans. We like knowing where each step will lead.
Yet faith rarely begins with the whole picture.
There are times when life unfolds just as we hoped, and times where we find ourselves walking roads we would not have chosen, facing disappointments we do not understand, or enduring changes that leave us feeling unsettled.
Psalm 37 offers a gentle reminder that our confidence is not found in understanding everything, but in trusting the One who does. David reminds us that the Lord orders our steps and delights in our way. What a remarkable thought, the God who guides us is not distant or indifferent, but personally invested in our journey. He sees every step we take, even when we cannot see beyond the next one ourselves.
This does not mean we will never stumble. Scripture is incredibly honest about the realities of life. However, it also offers us this assurance: though we may fall, we will not be utterly cast down, for the Lord upholds us with His hand. The One who guides our steps is also accomplishing His purposes, weaving even the ordinary moments of our lives into something far greater than we can presently see.
We may not be able to see into the future, or have all the answers, and the road ahead may twist and turn, but we are not walking it alone. So, whether we find ourselves in a season of flourishing, pruning, refinement or waiting, we can rest in the assurance that we are held, we are chosen and we are deeply loved.
Heavenly Father,
Thank You for guiding us with wisdom,
upholding us with Your hand,
and remaining with us in every season.
Help us to trust You with the steps before us, when we are tempted to worry about the road ahead.
Give us courage to keep moving, patience in times of waiting, and peace when life feels uncertain and Your purposes seem hidden.
Comfort us in the knowledge that You delight in us, and are never absent from our story.
Keep our hearts close to You, our eyes fixed upon You, and our trust rooted in Your unfailing love.
May we always recall Your goodness, hold fast to your promises, and rest in the knowledge that you will perfect what concerns us.

A place where faith begins to grow. Our Sunday School creates a safe, fun and faith-filled space for children to explore the stories of the bible, learn about Jesus, and grow in God's love.
