Prayer & Reflection
A short reflection and prayer for this month
August
“And there came a voice out of the cloud, saying, this is my beloved Son, hear Him.”
Luke 9:35
In every generation there are countless voices competing for our attention. Some encourage us to follow our hearts, some promise fulfilment through the acquisition of titles and things, while others encourage us to seek comfort or approval. Even our own thoughts can become so loud that they drown out all sense of purpose and reason. Yet, amid the noise, the Father’s words spoken on the Mountain still echo today: “…hear Him.”.
The transfiguration offers us a remarkable glimpse of Christ’s glory. For a brief moment, the disciples saw what had always been true: Jesus was not merely a teacher or prophet, but the beloved Son of God, radiant with divine glory. What is often overlooked is that this incredible moment does not begin with glory, it begins with prayer. The glory is not manufactured or sought after for its own sake; it happens in communion. The appearance of Moses and Elijah reminds us that all scripture has always pointed to Jesus. The same God who spoke through the law and the prophets is Jesus incarnate – the Word made flesh. Indeed, the Father’s own voice leaves no room for doubt; in listening to Jesus, we find the fulfilment of all God has planned for us.
The glory revealed on the mountain was never intended to remain an extraordinary experience reserved for a few; we are continually invited to behold the glory of Christ. Glory is not merely something we witness; it is something that changes us and His likeness is gently formed within us. Transformation is often far quieter than we expect. It is found in daily obedience, the quiet work of grace, choosing His wisdom over our own, and in faithfully following Him one step at a time.
Heavenly Father,
Thank You for revealing Your glory and Your plan through Your beloved Son, Jesus Christ.
In a world filled with noise and countless
competing voices, quiet our hearts and teach us to hear Him above all else.
Create within us moments of stillness
where we may meet with You, and give us hearts that are willing not only
to listen, but also to obey.
As we spend time in Your presence,
shape us by Your Spirit.
Transform our thoughts, our words and our actions, that the likeness of Christ may be seen in us.
Grant us wisdom to discern Your voice,
humility to receive Your correction,
and courage to follow wherever You lead.
May our lives reflect Your goodness, bringing glory to Your name and pointing others towards
Your Son and the glory that awaits.
We ask all these things in the name of Jesus,
Your beloved Son,
in whom all Your promises
find their fulfilment.
Amen.
